Jan 2015 | Constancia Megaproject Starts Copper Production

Starting August 2011, STRACON GyM has been engaged in an alliance with HudBay Peru to develop the Constancia mining project. The project had a total capital expenditure budget of US$ 1,700 million and started production of copper in December 2014.

STRACON GyM has contributed to the development of the mine through the construction of civil works such as access and haul roads, tailings dams, water storage reservoirs, sediment control structures, construction of waste dumps and the operation of the open-cut mine together with the maintenance of the mobile mining equipment fleet.

The civil earthworks construction period involved the participation of over 2,500 STRACON GyM employees from different specialties and backgrounds. The successful on-time on-budget execution also showed our strength in operating efficiently and promoting our safety culture. This safety culture allowed us to reach 7,412,819 man hours without lost-time incidents.

The Constancia mobile mining equipment fleet consists of 27m3 Hitachi shovels loading Caterpillar 793F 220 tonne capacity mining trucks, Caterpillar 994H front-end loaders, Caterpillar 24M graders, Caterpillar D10T bulldozers, and a large fleet of small ancillary equipment.

STRACON GyM, along with HudBay, will continue working to meet the challenges and demands of this large project, always adhering to the “Graña y Montero Style” which governs our quality and efficiency standards.
